Response to analysis of existing products

After having analysed existing products of a digipak, music video and magazine advert, I have a more thorough understanding of these three types of products, and so this will allow me to plan my products much easier, as I know exactly the standard I need to put into my products. For example, knowing the features of a magazine advert i.e. the image taking up the majority of the space, with a small amount of varied texts to support it, will help me when planning and producing my magazine advert. In addition, having analysed the products has improved my ability to think more critically about media texts and so this will help me when producing my own products, as I can critically look at my own work.

Response to target audience profile

As a result of my research, I created an audience profile to be very specific in terms of who the products are being targeted at. My target audience are those of my age group as it will be easier to produce media products tailored to my age group as i can more easily identify with them and this may not be the case with, for example, a 30 year old, as we tend to have different tastes at different points in our lives. My target audience are explorers, as they will be very engaged with their own personal growth but also doing something positive for society. It is this type of person that will be engaged with our music video, as it will play on various characteristics they can identify with and are therefore gratified by this identification.

Response to results from questionnaire

In light of the results from my questionnaire, it was made clear that most people liked pop acoustic, mostly for the quality of the music as oppose to the popularity of the genre. As such, our song will likely be under this genre as it is what the audience listen to the most. Also, I found that people tend to like simple, but interesting types of shots in music videos and that people who listen to pop acoustic tend to be more artistic and appreciate art in its different forms. People also tend to listen to music very often throughout the week, every week.

Explanation of Favourite Pop Music Video

The music video Uptown Funk is a very comical, innovative and creative music video which uses various techniques to give an 80's feel to the video. I enjoy watching this music video because of the way it uses camera techniques to engage the audience. For example, the fish eye is used at various points which makes the audience feel like they are part of the music video in a sense, and this fits into the power elite theory proposed by C Wright Mills as the audience are able to escape from reality and feel apart of a fictional world that does not contain the same stress as everyday life. It also fits under the Users and gratifications theory as when the audience watch the video, they identify aspects of their own lives and then discuss the video with others and this is proven by the fact that it has received over 1 billion views on YouTube and therefore validates the theory.

Introduction to A2 blog

This is my new blog for my A2 Media Studies course. We have been briefed with making a marketing package for an artist, consisting of a music video, an album cover and a website. The task is very exciting and varies from my AS media course. Our research is to be conducted individually, though our planning, production and post production will be done in our group. We have also been given a preliminary task to complete which is a simple recreation of a music video of our choice.
